The Carson City School District was a point of highlight at the Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) Annual Conference in Reno, the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The school district and trustees hauled in nearly a quarter of all the awards (4 out of 19) among the 17 districts statewide. Fundraiser Helps Build New Clean Drinking Water Wells

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce campus improvements at three schools including Pioneer High, Fremont Elementary and Mark Twain Elementary schools. Forty-five Carson High School (CHS) seniors have earned the nationally recognized National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The assessment is designed to measure students’ career readiness as they prepare to enter the workforce by assessing their abilities in three core areas: applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information. Students’ performance in these areas is meant to demonstrate their abilities to potential employers through the use of standardized, quantitative metrics. Project Tomorrow, a national education nonprofit group based in Irvine, Calif. hosted a nationwide challenge “Speak Up” to all students, grades K-12, where they submitted viewpoints about key educational issues, particularly concerning digital learning and the use of technology to support future ready schools. Terry Kerns, substance abuse and law enforcement coordinator with the Nevada Office of the Attorney General, spoke at Carson High School this morning to more than 300 freshmen about the opioid crisis facing Nevada and the science of addiction. She also discussed the laws that are being passed in the state to help and protect against this deadly habit, how to bring awareness to the opioid crisis and hopefully prevent students getting caught up in the addiction cycle. Carson High School teachers and support staff were surprised this morning at their regularly scheduled 7 a.m. faculty meeting in the library before classes began. A total of $10,000, parceled out in individual envelopes containing $50 bills, sat neatly organized on a table across the room. A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nev. March 18-20. There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS).
