Student Dress Code

Our Vision: We want EVMS to be a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and ready to learn.
Expectation: Wear clothing that reflects respect for yourself and others, supports employability skills and future possibilities, helps keep our school safe, and allows you to be present and ready to learn.

SHIRTS/TOPS

• Shirts must cover the entire torso at all times; crop tops are not permitted.
• Low-cut necklines, exposed cleavage, or visible undergarments are not allowed.
• Sleeves must cover the shoulders at all times. The following are not permitted: halter tops, tube tops, muscle shirts, backless shirts, spaghetti straps, or tank tops (unless worn underneath another shirt for additional coverage).
• Off-the-shoulder tops are not allowed if undergarments are exposed.
• Hoodies are allowed; however, hoods must remain down while inside the building.

PANTS/SHORTS

• Pants and shorts may not sag. If undergarments or shorts are visible, students will be asked to wear a belt or suspenders or change into alternative pants provided by the office for the day.
• Shorts must be within 1–2 inches above the knee and extend below the fingertips when arms are relaxed at the sides. Leggings may be worn under shorts, but the length requirement still applies.
• Yoga pants and leggings may not be worn as standalone bottoms.
• Pants, shorts, or jeans may not have holes, rips, or tears above the knee where skin is visible. Patched holes are acceptable.
• Sweatpants are allowed if they are made of sweatpant material. Pajamas are not permitted.
• Athletic-style pants and shorts are permitted.

SKIRTS/DRESSES

• Skirts and dresses must be within 1-2 inches above the knee and extend below the fingertips when arms are relaxed at the sides.  Skirts or dresses that do not extend below the knee must be worn with leggings underneath that extend below the knee, no tights. Leggings may be worn under skirts and dresses, but length requirements still apply.   

UNDERGARMENTS

• Undergarments (including bra straps, sports bra, underwear, boxers, etc.) must NOT be visible.  If visible, student will be asked to cover up or change.  

SHOES

• Shoes must be worn at all times and be safe for moving around campus.
• Closed-toed shoes are required.
• Backless shoes are permitted (E.g. Crocs, Birkenstocks style-shoes are allowed); slippers are NOT allowed 

ACCESSORIES

• Pajamas, bathrobes, and blankets are NOT allowed.
• Clothing and accessories must be free of references to gangs, tobacco, nicotine, drugs, alcohol, weapons, violence, vulgar language or images, or discrimination.  Bandanas not allowed.
• Jackets and coats are allowed inside the building as long as it does not interfere with learning.
• Belts and buckles must not include gang insignias, spikes, drug references, or inappropriate messages. Chains and hanging belts are not allowed.
• AirPods, headphones, and/or earbuds may NOT be worn upon entering the building; headphones and/or earbuds may be used for their Chromebooks for learning purposes only. 
• Please leave all colognes, perfumes, and other scented products at home. If found, they will be confiscated.
• Hats, caps, hoods, heavy scarves, head/face coverings, gloves/mittens, or other attached accessories may only be worn outside (unless required for medical or religious reasons).

Students who are not dressed in accordance with the Eagle Valley Middle School Dress Code, Vision, and Expectations will be provided with appropriate clothing to wear for the day. If a student repeatedly chooses not to follow the dress code, school administration will apply progressive disciplinary steps as needed and parents/guardians will be notified.
