Carson City Schools Foundation Awards $10,800 in Grants to Support Students, Educators
The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2023. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded a total of $10,800 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level project(s).
In total, CCSF has contributed nearly $46,324 in 2023 and more than $146,000 to students and educators since 2017.
The Fall 2023 mini-grant winners include the following alphabetically by school:
- Jennifer Correlli, Bordewich Bray Elementary School, $200 for flexible seating for a second-grade classroom
- Jessica Dunbar, Bordewich Bray Elementary School, $300 for mindfulness training tools for third through fifth grade GATE identified students
- Liberty Frame, Carson High School freshman, $100 for Ski Team fees
- Martha Kaboli, Eagle Valley Middle School, $200 for Arts and Crafts club
- Patricia Hernandez-Juarez, Empire Elementary School, $200 for materials for anxiety and self-esteem support group
- Isabel Manzano, Empire Elementary School, $200 for culturally diverse and linguistically appropriate books for ELL students
- Erica Meisler, Empire Elementary School, $200 for heavy duty whiteboards for student collaboration on math thinking
- Taylor Watson, Fremont Elementary School, $200 for chair pockets for AVID program to improve organization in classroom
- Carla Salters-MacMillan, Fritsch Elementary School, $200 to purchase STEM books
- Ruth Torres, Fritsch Elementary School, $200 for flexible seating options for first grade
- Christine Wagner, Fritsch Elementary School, $200 for special pencils, writing paper, reading strips and books to assist students with fine motor skill development
The Fall 2023 department-grant winners include the following alphabetically by department, school or grade-level projects:
- Alisa Kuniya, Carson High School, $2,000 for portable art wall displays for annual art shows
- Hannah Etchison, McKinney-Vento Students in Transition Program, $2,000 for districtwide winter clothing and boots for students in need
- Kim Tucker, Eagle Valley Middle School, $2,000 for a drone project
- Alison Holmes, Fritsch Elementary School, $2,000 for flexible seating for a second grade classroom
- Gina Hoppe, Fritsch Elementary School, $1,000 for recognition items for the fifth grade leadership team
CCSF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement and investment in the public schools of Carson City. This project is one of the many results of the “Empower Carson City 2027″ Strategic Plan – a five-year strategic plan for extraordinary schools built by the community of Carson City.
CCSF was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement. Established by the Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees, the foundation promotes education programs that traditional funding sources may not be able to reach.
